Top Five Ways to see the Northern Lights

Seeing the Northern Lights for the first time is one of those things - you'll always remember exactly where you were, who you were with and how the whole experience panned out. Were you on a Hurtigruten ship, lying in the snow on a remote hill-side, snowmobiling through the frozen landscape or something completely different? Here our five ways to experience the Northern Lights.

1. Midnight Concert in the Arctic Cathedral

Take part in a Midnight Concert in the Arctic Cathedral. Listen to the sounds of Norwegian Folk songs as well as classical and sacred selections as the Northern Lights dance outside in Tromso

2. Warming up in a Sami tent

Enjoying a warm drink and a slice of cake in a traditional Sami lavvo before experiencing the traditional way of Sami transport through the Arctic landscape, being pulled by a reindeer sleigh as you spot the Aurora Borealis above you in the night sky.

3. Sipping champagne in a hot tub

Take a glass of champagne with you out on deck to one of Hurtigruten's on board hot tubs. Sailing through the breath-taking scenery covered in crisp white snow, the Northern Lights complete the perfect scene

4. Dog sledding in the hills of Tromso

Sitting two to a sleigh being pulled or taking turns driving the sledge with the Northern Lights shining overhead.

5. On deck with a hot coffee, a tripod and your camera

For the budding photographers amongst you, wrap up warm, set up your tripod and try your luck at capturing the elusive Northern Lighst on film. A strong, hot Norwegian coffee will help keep your hands warm.
